Jett Ryker & Crew
A custom companion and crew mod for Starfield
Coming soon
The spacelanes are dangerous. Flying alone can get you killed. Who better to fly through the starfield with you than a Crimson Fleet pirate who reads more than most scholars, loves to throw hands, and uses effortless sarcasm and dry humor to fight back the ghosts of his past that he's been running from his entire life. But his ghosts hold secrets …and only you can help him discover them. Introducing Jett Ryker, the weirdest pirate you'll probably ever meet (and proud of it, too). Get to know him, and you'll find there's a lot more than meets the eye.Choose your path: Will Jett remain a criminal for the rest of his life? Or will you set him on the road to redemption? Will he learn all the secrets of his past or remain in the dark? Will you fall for him and find yourself entangled in a love story with high emotional stakes? Or will you develop a deep bond of friendship forged through blood, bullets, and adventure? Only you can decide. As you adventure through the starfield, you can expand your crew with Maverick Vox, a genius Cyber Runner with ghosts of his own. You'll help Jett learn how he and Maverick are connected, help Maverick gain his freedom back, and help Maverick reconnect with someone who was taken from him years ago—Emilee, another unlikely and unusual potential crew member. You'll also meet Pik, a master thief street rat who can become crew after certain events transpire.Along the way, you'll meet several quirky characters. Some friends, some foes. So buckle up for the grav jump. It's fly or die time.

About
My motivation for making this mod (besides always wanting to make a companion mod) was that, while I love the Constellation companions, I found them to be too similar and uptight. And while there's lots of crew to choose from in Starfield, they aren't as fleshed out or as interesting, and none are romanceable. I wanted a more morally gray companion that had romance and lots of content, because that's what I enjoy in my game. Jett is heavily story- and dialogue-driven and meant for players who enjoy that level of depth in companions.Jett is a Crimson Fleet pirate captain. In order to get him as a companion, you must join the Fleet. You can do this by getting arrested by SysDef and refusing or accepting Kibwe Ikande's offer. How you join is going to dictate what content you get. Each has a different experience.Jett is designed to be with you for entire playthroughs (your choice, of course). My goal was to make him feel like he was really with you on your adventures, whether you're romancing him or just friends. You meet Maverick Vox through Jett. You meet Emilee through Maverick. All the other characters in this mod you meet through Jett along the way.Jett Ryker & Crew is in late-stage development, and I've been play-testing the mod throughout every stage. I'm currently finishing up Jett's second quest and lines for Emilee, Maverick, and Pik, and then it'll be off to beta testing. I plan to release before the end of the year if all goes well during testing and voice acting is complete.

Mod features
Jett runs on the companion framework. Everything the Constellation companions can do (outside of some Constellation-specific parts of the main quest), Jett can do, and more. Maverick, Emilee, and Pik run on the Elite crew framework.
Jett's Core Features:
Runs on the base game companion framework
Two personal quests
Side quests
Deep backstory and secrets about his past that you help him unlock
Lots of personal questions that appear dynamically based on affinity and/or quest events or location
Lots of custom scenes before and/or after certain events (on top of the Wants To Talk events in the base game)
Custom Starborn foreknowledge for the player
Jett uses player pronouns for lines that have pronouns
Interjections, custom topics, vehicle lines, comment triggers, greetings, combat, and detection lines (like Constellation companions have)
Jett's Romance Arc:
Early flirting and spice
Three different romance scenes based on how you met Jett and how many times you've romanced him as Starborn
Commitment
Honeymoon quest
Honeymoon gift
Post-commitment date nights
Jett's Custom Features:
Lots of player options and choices in dialogue for roleplay and replayability
Jett doesn't affect stealth meter
A memory/recall system for many topics and events
Jett acknowledges the Starborn ship if you're flying it
Book system: Give Jett books he likes. Unlocks after asking Jett about his hobbies and his favorite book
Swaps gear via dialogue during certain quests when the player is prompted to wear a disguise
Joke system: Unlocks during his 7th story gate (if you choose the right dialogue)
Relationship building/getting to know Jett scenes (friends or romance)
Audio and text-only slates for environmental storytelling and "Jett lore"
Jett has interactions with several vanilla NPCs (spliced lines from base game), as well as with the base game characters voiced in the mod
Jett acknowledges your parents and has scenes about them if you have the Kid's Trait
Planned: More unity content
Some things are not listed to prevent spoilers.
Crew Custom Features:
Custom follow packages to allow crew to follow you AND Jett (basic follow, dismiss, trade, and wait). Currently just Maverick, but plan to implement for Pik and Emilee too.
Have Maverick on your crew and you'll have an additional option related to the neuroamp after the Ryujin questline is complete
If Maverick and Emilee are part of your crew, they play a part in Jett's second quest under certain conditions
Banter scenes between crew on ship
Planned: Banter scenes between crew while following the player and Jett (if I can get it to work right)
Paths/Story Arcs:
Vanilla, NG+, and NG+++ Paths
While the majority of content in this mod is the same across playthroughs, Jett does have tailored content for if you are doing a vanilla/new game start and are not a Starborn, for if you've gone through the Unity already and met Jett for the first time as a Starborn, and for if you've met Jett as a Starborn multiple times. The Redemption Path
This path is based on dialogue choices you make throughout the game. This path is meant for Crimson Fleet players who refuse SysDef's offer and join the Fleet on their own OR join via SysDef but choose to side with the Fleet. It's best for if you're a "mostly good guy" or if you want to roleplay starting off as the bad guy and evolve into a "hero" or whatever you want to be.The Pirate Path
The pirate path is (obviously) for those who want to continue playing as a pirate and is also based on your choices throughout the game. If you consistently choose "bad guy" dialogue options (meaning selfish, greedy, mean, or neutral choices), you'll never unlock the redemption path and its content. There is special content just for this path, though, and if you choose this one, you have an opportunity to help change the Fleet's direction (mostly implied).SysDef Path
You can still recruit Jett if you accept SysDef's offer to work undercover to take down the Fleet. Jett will not like this and will be suspicious of you for obvious reasons, and he'll make this well known. He'll be taking you on your word that you're playing SysDef and/or not planning to side with them. You'll have options to tell him that's what you're doing and mean it or lie to him, period. Jett would never team up with a snitch, and if you're undercover, well, you wouldn't say you were. You can side with the Fleet or SysDef but the outcomes will obviously be different.Infiltration Quests
This was my way of trying to make doing other faction quests after the Crimson Fleet quest line make more sense as a pirate and feel more immersive. Talk to Delgado after siding with the Fleet, and he'll give you these quests. It's fun for roleplay, Jett acknowledges and "participates," and it's also great for leading into redemption or pirate-for-life playthroughs. This quest/path will not be available if you side with SysDef.Early Spice Path
Early spice is what it sounds like. You can flirt with Jett as soon as you meet him if you want. You can hook up with Jett before romance if you want. You can instigate spice and then back out. It's all about how you want to roleplay it. This is totally optional and will only appear pre-romance and only if you've been flirting with Jett. If you tell Jett never mind after seeing it in his dialogue menu, it shuts down, and you won't see it again. You are not locked in or out of romance no matter what you choose. It's for fun, and it's all implied with fade-to-black scenes and nothing explicit.Elite Crew
Maverick, Emilee, and Pik run on the Elite Crew Framework. Maverick has two personal quests that involves Emilee (completed). Maverick and Emilee currently have their crew systems and dialogue for that in place. I'm currently working on writing combat lines, personal questions, and custom topics for them. Pik will be added to the framework soon and already has a lot of top-level personal questions and a quest in progress. I may give Emilee, Maverick, and Pik more custom topics as I go along, but Jett's the star of my mod, and I basically created my crew members to be supporting cast for Jett, though they are special characters in their own right.Maverick's quests involve Jett and/or assume he's there.Jett's Crew Skills
- Piloting, rank 4
- Theft, rank 4 (mostly just for show/backstory, but makes his "gifts" much better)
- Marksmanship, rank 3
- Particle Beams, rank 2Maverick's Crew Skills
- Starship Engineering, rank 4

About the author
I'm just a girl who loves words and being creative. I've worked on a lot of cool things, but nothing is as incredible as seeing my work and vision come alive in a game I love. Since starting this project, I've definitely caught the mod creator bug and can't foresee ever stopping. Jett will likely always grow and be improved upon, and I'll most certainly be making other mods. It's funny, because I used to feel like I spent more time modding my games than playing them. Now I create for my own mod more than I do either. And I love it.Jett Ryker & Crew has been in development since October 2024. I'm a solo creator, and Jett's my "baby." It's been a long but fun road to get here!- Whimsical Pisces
This mod was NOT "vibe coded."
I wrote everything in it, designed everything in it, and conceptualized everything in it (including this site), with the exception of Jett's and Maverick's custom gear, which is by Zone79 (with permission). Images are all from inside the game using actual shots of my characters. No matter how good, bad, or in between, it's all me. I reverse-engineered Starfield's vanilla companion framework and the elite crew framework by myself. It was a LOT of pain and suffering, but so satisfying. I've put 3300+ hours of Creation Kit dev time into it. In other words, it's practically been my life for almost two years. What I did use AI for was to help me LEARN Papyrus in the beginning and troubleshoot when I couldn't get a script of mine to compile. IMO, that's how it should be used. However, my mod runs on base game scripts, as Jett and crew use the game's companion and crew frameworks. My custom scripts are pretty simple and are based off the game's existing scripts as well.I will never let AI write or design anything for me. I write and design for my day job! Unfortunately, because of the AI mods flooding the scene, everyone seems to think everything is AI now, hence this section that honestly shouldn't even be necessary, but these are the times we live in.
